Top 12 Upcoming Rock Concert Tours in 2016

After a rockin’ 2015, a very exciting year is once again upon us! 2016 is gearing up to be a fine year for concerts, and we could say that regardless of your personal preferences, you are simply bound to bump into some killer shows in the next 12 months. It is very apparent that artists are in a way forced to hit the road due to the poor state of the music industry, but this is actually something that fans should absolutely take advantage of. The dwindling of record sales also shifted the musicians’ attention and focus to live shows, meaning that they are now investing much more time into quality sound, quality equipment, stage effects, and just top-notch experience for the crowd. Ticket prices are usually OK too, meaning that if you plan things right, you’ll be able to catch all of your top favorites. In our humble opinion, these are the 12 best rock concert tours to look out for in 2016.

12. The Moody Blues – Fly Me High Tour

The Moody Blues

The Moody Blues are without a doubt a quintessential band of art rock and prog-rock style, one of the all-time champions who secured a place in the pantheon by shaping new sonic landscapes and delivering such timeless musical pieces as “Nights in White Satin.” They’ve been around since 1964, which is over 50 years, and they are still very, very good live in concert. Operating as a three-piece, featuring drummer Graeme Edge, frontman Justin Hayward on guitar and vocals, and bassist John Lodge, these boys have been together in the band since 1966. They don’t get enough credit for their longevity, and you can most certainly feel the amazing vibes during their live gigs. If you’re not a fan of the new stuff, you can rest assured that the gang will predominantly deliver a best-of type of show, featuring not just “Nights in White Satin,” but “Go Now”, “Tuesday Afternoon,” “Question” and more.

5 Seconds Of Summer

And after the veterans come the young stars! Founded in Sydney in 2011, Australian pop punk gang 5 Seconds of Summer quickly rose to fame and now proudly stands one of the hottest fresh acts to catch live in concert. In 2016, they will be treating us with hits from their latest album, 2015’s “Sounds Good Feels Good,” demonstrating that young lads can deliver one heck of a punch. We think that these fellas should not be underestimated as a pop sensation due to their previous tour with One Direction, as we’re talking about more craft, edge, and raw vibe here. Some of the tunes you can expect to hear come from the group’s 2014 self-titled debut, including “She Looks So Perfect,” “Don’t Stop,” “Amnesia,” “Good Girls,” and more. They released a new album “A Head Full of Dreams” in 2015, once again taking a new sonic route to keep the fans eager for more. But with seven records under their belt, the guys are always presenting a quality set list consisting both of the new stuff and the latest hits. The thing about Coldplay is that they are also amazing musicians, and they like to demonstrate their skills on stage, so if you’re up for some quality instrumental passages, do join the ride! 9. Hinder – When the Smoke Clears Tour

Hinder Tour

Up next, our personal favorites, the Hinder gang! These guys have a great new album called “When the Smoke Clears” under their belt now, and we wholeheartedly recommend that you see them live if they drop by your region. Now, we are talking about the record that presented us smash rock ‘n’ roll singles “Hit the Ground,” “Rather Hate Than Hurt,” “Intoxicated,” and “Letting Me Go,” and just a simple listen to these ditties should prove that the boys mean business. They have been around since the early 2000s and now have five albums under their belt. What we love about them is that they never left the garage vibe of their early days and stuck to the alternative rock style all the way through. They do not disappoint, and their live shows are an epitome of raw energy. On the road, they will be gracing the stage with US alt metallers Full Devil Jacket.

8. Slayer – Repentless Tour (+Testament & Carcass)

Slayer Tour

Thrash metal titans Slayer have suffered a major blow in 2013 when their longtime guitarist and key songwriter Jeff Hanneman passed away, and they soon suffered another setback after parting ways with longtime drummer Dave Lombardo, but they recuperated! With Gary Holt of Exodus on guitar and Paul Bostaph behind the drum kit, the band released “Repentless” in 2015, and it is a very solid release packed with modern charm and loads of old school vibe. During live shows, their guitars are still roaring hard, the drums are light-speed fast, and Mr. Tom Araya’s vocals will pierce you through with the man’s distinctive roar. The trek will see the gang paying a visit to several corners of the world, and see the thrash gang gracing stage with some of the finest metal acts of today. 7. ZZ Top – Hell Raisers Tour

ZZ Top Tour

Now these are the guys you cannot go wrong with! They have been around since 1969, and they still have the same lineup as the day they were founded – Billy Gibbons on guitar and vocals, Dusty Hill on bass, and Frank beard behind the battery kit. They have crafted a distinctive blend of blues rock and have been rocking the world for ages now. Their new tour will not bring anything new, experimental or out of the ordinary – just as it shouldn’t. We are talking about one of the most fine-tuned formulas for primal groove, fuzz, and rock ‘n’ roll. If you’re asking what to expect on a ZZ Top concert, the answer would be – all-time classics, fuzzy beards, and fuzzy guitars (during “Legs” at least). When it comes to studio activity, the latest ZZ album was released back in September 2012 under the title of “La Futura.”

6. Journey – San Francisco Fest Tour (+Doobie Brothers)

Journey Tour

What makes Journey stand out in 2016 is the amazing tour package that they became a part of. For this year, “Don’t Stop Believin'” hit makers are joining forces with the almighty Doobie Brothers – also known as the dudes who treated the world with “Long Train Runnin'” among other hits – to present the world with the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll package. Both acts operate as strong units with steady lineups, and we can say that they’ve both crafted very solid set list to supplement each other. You will be blown away by both acts for sure, and that is not a common occurrence on rock gigs these days. Set lists? Well, the classics, of course. Journey, as well as the Doobie boys have a vast array of staple hit to choose from, so expect a repertoire packed to the gills with songs for all ages. What are the most famous Journey songs? 5. Elton John – Wonderful Crazy Night Tour

Elton John Tour

The legendary Sir Elton is not just one of the best artists to see in concert in 2016, but one of the best artists to see in every year as long as the man is still pushing his thing. The thing about John is that he remained very prolific over the years, and we got to witness his constant artistic development. He is planning to release his 32nd (!) studio album in 2016 under the title of “Wonderful Crazy Night,” putting a pinch of positive unpredictability to his shows. You can of course expect the big songs, but major fans are always left in a state of alertness about which song the Rocket Man will pull out next. 4. AC/DC – Rock or Bust World Tour

Epitomizing the very soul of hard rock ‘n’ roll, Australian rock giants AC/DC just might go down in history as the hardest rocking band of all time. It is not common that a band gets to perform in front of tens of thousands of people and that the fans are maniacally raging on every tune and singing every single chorus with the band like one. This is a fit description of you average AC/DC show – a cathartic, life-changing even, experience. In case you wondered, Angus Young, Brian Johnson and the gang still stick to their shtick despite the serious blow they suffered in April 2014 when longtime guitarist Malcolm Young was forced to early retirement due to an undisclosed severe illness. 3. Megadeth – Dystopia World Tour ( + Suicidal Tendencies, Children of Bodom & Havok)

Megadeth Tour

Quite high on the list, high enough to get the bronze medal even, are thrash metal behemoths Megadeth. Why? Because they have an amazing new lineup and a killer new album “Dystopia” under their belt, that’s why. After parting ways with guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover, mastermind Dave Mustaine and longtime bassist Dave Ellefson recuperated and hired Brazilian guitar extraordinaire Kiko Loureiro and Lamb of God’s drum master Chris Adler. In the studio, they crafted some incredibly powerful, melodic, and riff driven songs, thrilling fans by returning to the metal route after the more rock-based “Super Collider” album in 2013. Their shows are as tight as they can get, packed with classic tunes like “Symphony of Destruction,” “Trust,” “Holy Wars,” and “Peace Sells,” as well as new rockers “Fatal Illusion,” “The Threat Is Real,” and more. The band is in absolute top shape, both in terms of musicality, technicality and songwriting skills, and their live shows right now offer the fans a chance to experience a vast array of styles Adam Levine and co. are capable of delivering. The group is still promoting their 2014 album “V,” the one that delivered mega hit “Animals,” and still manages to somehow stay fresh and vibrant during every single show. 1. Black Sabbath – The End Tour

Black Sabbath Tour

And the No. 1 title goes to the one and only, the almighty champions, creators and pioneers of heavy metal – Black Sabbath. What makes this tour stand out in many ways is the fact that it marks the group’s final run in history. After this tour, guitarist Tony Iommi, vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, and bassist Geezer Butler will call it a day as a band. Sadly, they couldn’t have solved their issues with original drummer Bill Ward, but this will still be a tour to remember. The gloomy, dark power of the metal riff that was born from Mr. Iommi’s guitar many years ago will strike our world live in concert for one last time. It is in our humble opinion that if metal music lies even a mile away from your musical interests, you should go and see Black Sabbath live, it is really as simple as that.
