The journey of hard rock legends Motorhead began in 1975 as frontman Ian Fraser Kilmister, known as Lemmy, forged a unique sonic mixture of traditional rock ‘n’ roll values combined with a fresh taste of blazing riffs and roaring vocals that would only be truly appreciated in years to come.
The raw mixture of punk and hard rock that laid the foundation of genres such as thrash and speed metal wasn’t initially met with much understanding, but it all changed in 1979, when the band released a very impressive set of three albums – “On Parole,” “Bomber,” and “Overkill.”
One more year, and Motorhead’s place in the rock pantheon was secured. “Ace of Spades” was released in November, and if there’s one Motorhead song you know, it’s this album’s title track.
And this is where one of the group’s most renowned traits became apparent – consistency. Much like fellow hard rock titans AC/DC, Motorhead have entered a successful streak of continuously releasing new albums based on the same trusty formula.
Lemmy’s unique distortion-fueled bass guitar and galloping riffs, his growly singing, as well as his bandmates’ shrieking guitars and fast-paced drums worked like a charm, and there was no reason for the band to change anything.
This means that Motorhead stood strong through the glitter of the ’80s, the grunge of the ’90s, the pop of the 2000s, and is battling modern dance music with all they’ve got these days.
After constantly presenting new albums across five decades, Motorhead are still not stopping. “Bad Magic” is due to be released in August 2015 as their 22nd studio effort.
Unfortunately, Lemmy has been facing health issues in recent times, meaning that going out to see Motorhead live in concert is a very nice way to show your love and support. The man is turning 70, yet he’s still rocking like the greatest rocker who ever lived. Buy Motorhead concert tickets online, you’re in for some proper rock ‘n’ roll.
