Sammy Hagar Slams New Van Halen Live Album: ‘What the F—k Are They Thinking?’

Eddie Van HalenFormer Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar recently took a bit of a jab at the band’s latest live album, branding the vocals of David Lee Roth “rough.”

The singer admitted that he cannot resist addressing the matter with a bit of criticism, essentially saying that Roth’s subpar performance ruins the whole experience, wondering whether “these guys [can] do anything worse to their reputation and to the level of the music of the band.”

Getting a bit worked up, Hagar wondered, “What the f—k are they thinking?!”

You can check out the band’s recent footage live on the Jimmy Kimmel Show to see if you’re with Uncle Sammy on this one. The band rocked “Panama” and the atmosphere certainly seemed to be a fiery one.

His full Las Vegas Review Journal quote reads as follows: “I’m trying to tread lightly on the whole thing,” Sammy told Review Journal about the band’s latest live record.

“Every time they do something, I’m like, ‘Oh my god, can these guys do anything worse to their reputation and to the level of the music of the band? They’ve got some pretty rough vocals.”

“I try to stay away from criticism, but here I am, already starting this interview with it. It’s impossible. It’s impossible to stay away from. Standing back, I’m just going, ‘What the f–k are these guys thinking?'”

Van Halen are gearing up to rock the States this summer with a string of tour dates across the country. Click here to see the full Van Halen tour itinerary and additional concert ticket info.
